Senior Associate Position

Job Description

Monument MicroCap Partners (“MMP”), a private investment firm focused on control buyout of companies having EBITDA of $1-5 million, is seeking candidates for a Senior Associate position in its Indianapolis office.  This is a unique, ground-floor opportunity, as the individual who fills this position will be extensively involved in all aspects of MMP’s investment operations, including origination, underwriting and value creation, and will report directly to MMP’s CEO & President.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Sourcing investments, including interacting with investment bankers and business brokers to identify platform and add-on investments that are appropriate for MMP’s mandate;
• Underwriting and conducting due-diligence on investment opportunities, including evaluating and summarizing CIMs, providing independent company and market research, and conducting industry checks;
• Building and maintaining complex LBO models and funds flow spreadsheets;
• Directing third-party due-diligence activities, including legal, tax, accounting, background, market study, and insurance;
• Assisting with the development of an appropriate capital structure and communicating, both written and verbally, with potential debt providers and equity co-investors;
• Interacting with owners and management teams of portfolio companies, from initial contact to providing strategic and financial support post-closing;
• Working closing with MMP’s Partners and portfolio company management teams to develop and implement strategic value-creation plans;
• Monitoring portfolio company performance and assisting in the development of appropriate performance metrics;
• Participate in all aspects of the realization process, including determination of the appropriate exit timeframe, positioning/presenting the investment to maximize value, interviewing bankers, and working with bankers through the sale process.

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

• 2-4 years of private equity and/or investment banking experience
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• An ability to build and manipulate complex financial LBO models
• Excellent analytical skills and an ability to think of creative ways to research small companies that operate in small, niche industries that are not covered by publicly-available research
• An ability to interact and connect with business owners and capital providers;
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage several strict deadlines; and
• A genuine willingness to learn and to be an early contributor to a team-oriented, and entrepreneurial firm.
